Designing a new app for Bosch smart home vision

Bosch China has rolled out smart-life products as part of the AIoT strategy for many years. Unlike famous Bosch home appliances, these products focus on home environments control and monitoring. They are KNX(smart building control system), Smart Baby Crib, Smart speaker, Smart lock and Air Purifier.

Up until 2021, each product only has its own access portal on the mobile platform, an app or a mini-app that is designed mostly by engineers themselves. There was no one dedicated to looking at a holistic solution for the Bosch smart-life product series. This meant that many times, users are shifting from app to app to access products and lacking a unified experience. The team realized the problem and decide to make some changes.

In this project, I led the design of an all-in-one Bosch smart home portal for the smart-life products series and took this chance to create an updated Bosch brand image in the smart home market. As the lead designer on this project, I helped guide the entire project from research to final implementation.

Duration: 4 months with ongoing support

My Role: Lead Designer

Team: 1 User Researcher, 1 Illustrator, 1 Developer

Status: The app is under development right now and plans to release in 2022. I still provide constant support on design to help the development run well.
